SUPERINTENDENT BRIDGE DIVISION

Reporting to the Bridge Division Manager/Project Manager and/or Superintendent, as Project Coordinator , liaises between the parties; responsible for coordinating project operations including people, equipment and materials required to complete each project on time and on budget. As Estimator , contributes to the goals and profits of the company by accurately estimating the costs of potential projects within specifications and market value resulting in obtaining profitable construction contracts.

Duties & Responsibilities:

PROJECT COORDINATOR;

  • Working with the Project Manager and Superintendent, plans and manages the implementation of contracts to meet or exceed the expectations and specifications/standards set, within or below costs and time lines;
  • Working closely with the Superintendent, owner, consultants, trade contractors, inspectors and regulatory agencies to prepare and execute project plans;
  • Responsible for project documentation including contracts, change orders, correspondence and filing of documents, drawings, etc.;
  • Drafts meeting minutes and correspondence;
  • Coordinates flow of information between departments and stakeholders;
  • Works closely with the Superintendent and decision makers to identify, recommend, develop, implement and support cost-effect project delivery;
  • Coordinates project administration, safety program compliance, maintaining excellent working relationships with employees, engineers, the owner, support services and anyone else involved in the project completion;
  • Supports foremen and crews to ensure timely and accurate communication of all information/documentation;
  • Assists with monitoring cost and quality control during construction;
  • Develop and maintain a current knowledge of new and emerging industry trends, technology, equipment and techniques;
  • Assists to identify and implement efficiencies and cost reductions. Review process improvement suggestions, implement and share viable ones;
  • Project administration including pricing change orders, tracking requests for information and review drawings.

ESTIMATOR;

  • Assess and provide accurate cost estimates and required documentation to obtain profitable construction/maintenance contracts, responding to business leads, or responding to requests for tender;
  • Review projects, analyzing and documenting estimated vs. actual costs, and the whole job – what was done, when, how, why. Use this data for estimating work/projects;
  • Plan short and long term work/projects with the division team;
  • Work with management to develop annual target business strategies;
  • Work with superintendents in management of projects including planning and organizing the crews and equipment, overseeing the work, and managing the client relationships;
  • Prepare progress reports and invoices for work completed;
  • Develop a client base by prospecting for new clients, checking newspapers for tender calls, and/or building relationships with present clients, promoting the company and its services, negotiating and entering into construction project contracts;
  • Review contracts concerning insurance and bonding; order bonding;
  • Promote teamwork and morale;
  • Ensure timely and accurate communication of all information/documentation;
  • Identify and implement efficiencies, process improvements and ways to save money.

You will have the following qualifications:

  • CET designation or diploma or degree in Civil Engineering
  • Working knowledge of Alberta Transportation and Saskatchewan Highways bridge specifications
  • Ability to read blue prints and drawings
  • Training in project management with excellent computer skills
