RM OF PREECEVILLE THREE SPAN BRIDGE

PROJECT OWNER: RM of Preeceville No. 334
PROJECT LOCATION: Preeceville, Saskatchewan
PROJECT SCHEDULE: October to December 2018
PROJECT VALUE: $550,000

PROJECT DESCRIPTION:

The RM of Preeceville required an existing three span wooden structure to be replaced with a larger 24.2 m long by 8.5m wide three span precast concrete and steel bridge. Work included dismantling of the existing structure, installation of new steel pipe piling, precast abutments and girders, steel sheet piling back and wing walls, armouring of the channel with riprap, granular backfill and tube style bridgerail. Isolation of the work area around the pier piles was required by narrowing the channel during construction.

Building this bridge during the winter months created some difficulties which slowed down construction. Heating and hoarding for the piles was required to keep the pile concrete from freezing until it was cured. The cold weather also slowed down backfilling activities as compaction could not be achieved without heating the fill material first.

Construction started in October of 2018 and work was completed by December of that same year, on schedule and on budget.
