Rehabilitation – 124th Avenue, Edmonton, AB

PROJECT OWNER: City of Edmonton
PROJECT LOCATION: 124 Avenue: 142 St to 149 St
PROJECT SCHEDULE: June to September 2019
PROJECT VALUE: $1,350,000

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

This project was a complete rehabilitation of 124th Avenue and part of the Yellowhead Freeway Conversion program. Carmacks replaced 1.5km of standard curb and gutters and installed 750 LM of 2.5m wide monowalk on the south side to provide safe passage for pedestrians. Simultaneously, Carmacks replaced 1100m2 of commercial accesses while maintaining traffic into the businesses. Carmacks lowered the road and removed rail road tracks as the line was decommissioned to support the Yellowhead project. Carmacks used the FDR process to install the base and then paved 100mm of HT asphalt totaling approximately 9000m2 to complete the job.

This project had a high volume of truck traffic which made for a highly complicated traffic accommodation plan. Despite the challenges, the project was completed ahead of schedule.
