TRAFFIC UPDATES

UPDATED JULY 8, 2020:

 

Portland Cement Concrete Paving (PCCP) Widening

Carmacks & subcontractor Proform is carrying on with the Widening of the South West Anthony Henday.

  • Scope of Work: once the gravel is done, includes saw cutting, ties-in/dowel bars placement, pouring concrete, curing compound and joint sealing.
  • After the pour, a curing time of 7 days will be necessary to allow finalization of the joint sealing before releasing the traffic set up and the steel barriers in place.
  • Once the steel barriers are removed, line painting will be done to delimit the new shoulder line.
  • The Second section (947m long) to be complete will be at the Cameron Height Interchange, North Bound Lane (Stat. 10+800 to 11+800).
  • Future updates will be posted on advancement and the other sections of the SWAHD ready for to be poured.

Traffic Impact:

  • Night Time Lane Closure :
    • Lane closure and speed reduction to 60 km/h, on the North Bound Lane of the Henday, by Cameron Height Interchange (Stat. 10+800 to 11+800)
    • Lane Restriction starting from 20:00 to 6:00, i.e. off peak hour, Speed will be reduced on the single lane (outside lane is the one being closed).

Duration:

  • Operation Schedule on 9th of July at night time (weather dependent), the nightly closure and the PCCP paving will occur for the rest of the Construction season and upon completion of the PCCP widening.

The Section mentioned above will take approximately 4 nights of work.

PCCP Equipment Movement

In order to move the PCCP equipment and get ready for the next pouring operation on July 9th, a lane closure will occur on the SWAHD, North Bound Lane from the North Saskatchewan River Bridge to the Cameron Height Interchange  (Stat. 10+100 to 11+000).

Traffic Impact:

  • Night Time Lane Closure :
    • Lane closure and speed reduction to 60 km/h, on the North Bound Lane of the Henday, from the North SK River Bridge to  Cameron Height Interchanges (Stat. 10+100 to 11+000)
    • Lane Restriction starting from 20:00 to 6:00, i.e. off peak hour, Speed will be reduced on the single lane (outside lane is the one being closed).

Duration:

  • Operation Schedule on 8th of July at night time. The lane closure will be lifted once the equipment is set at the next location.

WHITEMUD INTERCHANGE STRUCTURE LOCATION:

  • Eastbound WMD: Regular detour in place. (no additional traffic restrictions)
  • Westbound WMD: Regular detour in place. (no additional traffic restrictions)
  • SB AHD: Work Activity:  Concrete pour in SW Quadrant of interchange
    • Traffic Impact: Exit Ramp from SB AHD to EB WMD, Speed limit will be reduced to 40 km/h on exit loop ramp.
    • Duration: Friday June 26th (9:00 AM -12:00 PM)
  • NB AHD: Work Activity:  Concrete pour in NW Quadrant of interchange
    • Traffic Impact: Exit Ramp from NB AHD to WB WMD, Speed limit will be reduced to 40 km/h on exit loop ramp.
    • Duration: Tuesday June 30th (9:00 AM -12:00 PM)

NORTH SASKATCHEWAN RIVER STRUCTURE LOCATION:

Southbound AHD:

  • Work Activity: Preparation work at abutment 2 of eastbound structure accessing through access point 2 / excavation work northwest end
  • Traffic Impact:  Trucks turning from right hand lane, speed will be reduced to 60km/hr through work zone for SB(EB) traffic. Will require assistance possible to guide vehicles to maintain speed and give buffer for trucks turning into site. Will be during OFF PEAK HOURS between 9:00 AM to 3:30 PM.
  • Duration: Monday June 22nd  speed reduction implemented until Friday June 26th

Northbound AHD:

  • Work Activity:   Piling at northeast corner of structure accessing through access point 1
  • Traffic Impact: RIGHT HAND LANE CLOSURE for piling setup   //   Trucks turning from right hand lane, speed will reduced to 60km/hr through work zone for NB(WB) traffic. Will require assistance possible to guide vehicles to maintain speed and give buffer for trucks turning into site. Will be during OFF PEAK HOURS between 9:00 AM to 3:30 PM.
  • Duration:Friday June 19th, daytime RIGHT lane closure (3-4 hours)   //   Monday – Friday June 22nd – June 26th

 

ONGOING:  The following are the impacts to traffic on Whitemud Drive at the Anthony Henday Interchange:

Continuous:

  • Speed reduction to 60KPH on Whitemud at this location
  • Two lane jog detour
  • Two travel lanes maintained in both directions through the work zone
  • Lane width reduction to 3.5m
